PAWLING - Richard D. Muller, 63, a long-time resident of Pawling, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. Born in New York City on February 5, 1945, he was the son of Frederick and Hedwig (Heid) Muller. He worked as a maintenance supervisor for Green Haven Correctional Facility until he retired in June 2006. On September 4, 1976 he married Terrell Kurtz; she survives him at home. Richard was a dedicated member of the Pawling Fire Department, serving his community for 45 years, and was Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners since 1992. He was a lifemember who tried to further the education and training of the fire department members. Richard was a former member of the Pawling Lions Club who enjoyed cooking, hunting, fishing, power boating, and going on cruises with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Terrell, he is survived by his son, Thomas Shaw and his wife, Donna of Bethel, CT; his two daughters, Susan Jackson and her husband, Kerry of Wingdale, NY and Christine Brunow and her husband, Henry of Pawling, NY; and six grandchildren, Maureen, Samantha, and Bridget Jackson, Olivia Shaw, and Holly and John Brunow. He is predeceased by his brother, Norman Muller who died November 28, 1980. Friends may call at the Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The Pawling Fire Department will conduct a service at the funeral home at 6 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at Christ Church, Quaker Hill, Pawling on Saturday at 11AM. Burial will follow in the Quaker Hill Cemetery, Pawling, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Richard's memory to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
